    Strictly the Best Vol. 50 & 51 commemorates the 35th anniversary of VP Records in America, and is an annual collection of breaking tracks and hottest hits on the reggae scene.

  • Romain Virgo - Lifted (VP Records 2015)

    Check out the brand new EP "Lifted" from Romain Virgo which debuted at the number three position behind Bob Marley on the iTunes reggae chart.

    The 25-year-old Jamaican singer-songwriter Romain Virgo returns with a brand new EP Lifted on VP Records. Virgo unveils hope behind darkness on this concsious 8-song set filled with social commentary.

    He holds strong with "God Inna Mi Corner" and weeds out fake friends on "Fade Away" featuring dancehall artist Assassin. While showcasing his dee-jay skills on the EDM-tinged reggae track "Badder Man," he reveals the gripping realities of a rudeboy and opts for a different way of life. "I don't mix up with da criminal dem, me a gwan stick to mi gal dem. I don't care who a buss this, who a buss that, me don't want no strap," as he sings in the song's closing lyrics.

    To pay homage to his ladies, Virgo then offers a few ballads on his EP - including his latest romancer "Stars Across The Sky," his Sam Smith cover of "Stay With Me" (which recieved over 2.4 mil YouTube views for its accompanying visual) and " Soul Provider" (racking in nearly 4 mil YouTube video views). This will give listeners a feel of his 2016 album entitled Love Sick (VP Records), which is a heartfelt collection mostly comprised of love songs.

    Lifted follows his critically acclaimed 2012 album The System, which was described as "striking" (Washington Post), "high-quality" (BBC) and "smooth and engaging" (New York Times). Billboard also proclaimed he has "empowering messages over misogynistic and violent lyrics, intricately textured one-drop rhythms instead of frenetic digital beats" and he has "found an appreciative, multi-generational audience."

  • Iba Mahr – Diamond Sox (VP Records 2015)

    Debut album "Diamond Sox" from Iba Mahr, one of the stars of Jamaica's roots rebirth movement, will be available in stores November 20th.
    Diamond Sox the album includes the original title track and the remix version of the 2014 YouTube video hit (with over 500,000 views combined.) The album features appearances from Tarrus Riley, Jah 9, Jah Mali, Dean Fraser and Capleton. Iba Mahr's successful 2014 -2015 performances at Reggae Sumfest, Rebel Salute, Sting, Western Consciousness, Air Jamaica's Jazz and Blues Festival have made him an in demand live act within the Caribbean, USA and European touring circuit.

  • Christopher Martin - Steppin Razor (Official Music Video 2015)

    Christopher Martin's "Steppin Razor" is the first single off of the "Steppin Razor" EP. Introducing the "Steppin Razor". . . Christopher Martin. The quintessential modern reggae artist. He embodies swagger and sex appeal matched with his outstanding stage presence and tremendous vocal talent. Born on Valentine's Day in 1987 in the rural community of Black Pasture, St. Catherine, he was musically inclined from an early age, honed his skills at Watermount All-Age School and later graduated Cram St. Jago High School. During these years, his love for music blossomed. In 2005, he won Jamaica's top televised talent show Digicel Rising Stars.

     

     



    Following his initial success, Martin joined the Big Yard recording outfit, home to diamond ­selling artist "Shaggy" and producer extraordinaire Robert Livingston. He has worked with the best in the business, including Arif Cooper of Fresh Ear Productions, Shane Brown of Jukeboxx Recordings, Christopher Birch and Mosiah Music. His hits such as “Nah Go Change,” “Take My Wings,” “Jamaican Girls,” “Gallis” featuring Busy Signal, “Paper Lovin',” “Come Where You Going” “Cheater's Prayer,” and “Chill Spot” continue to tear up radio waves across the globe. The tremendous vocal prowess, proven lyrical ability and down-to-earth persona he shares with his audience has kept him at the top of his game and won him fans worldwide.

  • Alborosie Meets King Jammy – Dub Of Thrones (2015)

    VP Records/Greensleeves is happy to announce the April 14th, 2015 worldwide release of Alborosie Meets King Jammy – Dub Of Thrones, a historic pairing of one of Jamaica’s most pivotal dub legends King Jammy with the modern day Italian-born dubmaster Alborosie. The album includes a fully-illustrated package by Tony McDermott, Greensleeves Records’ go-to artist for almost four decades known for his iconic cartoon imagery depicting Jamaican music. The mostly instrumental collection will be available on CD, limited edition vinyl and digitally.

    Mixed by Alborosie at his Shengen studio and King Jammy at his studio in the Waterhouse district of Kingston, this old-school meets new-school clash delivers an authentic dub reggae listening experience. With speaker-shaking, neighbor-waking and no-prisoner taking bass, this is designed to be played at high volume for maximum effect.

    Alborosie and King Jammy plan to tour in support of this release throughout the summer. Dates will be announced at another time.
